Candy A to Z: Valomilk Candy Cups

The Sifers Candy Company's big break came in 1931, when an incorrectly prepared batch of marshmallows didn't solidify as expected. Harry Sifers found that even though the marshmallow was a little runny, it still tasted good. He took a gamble and put some of it into chocolate cups, offering them to his customers for a nickel. They were a hit!

Candy A to Z: Oh Henry!

Mysteries abound with the Oh Henry! candy bar, as we discovered when we were researching its origins. For instance, Wikipedia gives the date of its introduction as 1909, while Nestle's site says it arrived on scene in 1920 (We're guessing it may have been invented in 1909, and that 1920 may be the date of its first mass production.). Then, of course, is the mystery of who exactly Henry is.

In our collection of thousands of candies, there are a precious few that hold the distinction of being over 100 years old, and MoonPie is a member of this exclusive club. On one hand, it's astounding for any product to weather a century of ups, downs, and changing tastes. On the other, a MoonPie is basically a pre-made, individually wrapped s'more. How could a product like that not succeed?!
