March Candy Newsletter

February 28, 2019

Here's our monthly newsletter, full of sweet new information and ideas, including new products, a St. Patrick's Day candy recipe and craft, holiday fun, and store updates.

Candy Collection for Young Hospital Patients

All City Candy is collecting candy donations to help fill Spring Baskets to be delivered to patients at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Customers at both stores may purchase a candy item of their choice to place into the baskets, which we then deliver to Rainbow on April 21.

"We always like to find ways to give back to the community,” says Elisabeth Sapell, founder and president of All City Candy. “Partnering with Rainbow has become a twice a year event – we fill baskets in the spring and we fill Santa Sacks in the winter. We were shocked when we heard how many children are being cared for at Rainbow over the holidays. These children and their families are going through a difficult time and we want to give them a little something to help spread some cheer.”

All City Candy will be collecting donations at both stores through April 20.

Leprechaun Popcorn

Ingredients:
Instructions:
  1. Put popped popcorn into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Put Green Melting Chocolate Wafers into a microwavable bowl or measuring cup. Heat in microwave on 20% power for 15 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Repeat process until chocolate is completely melted and smooth. (If you are using White Chocolate Wafers and Green Food Coloring, add food coloring now, until you achieve the green color you desire.)
  3. Pour the melted green chocolate over the popcorn and stir with a spatula to coat.
  4. Spread the chocolate-coated popcorn onto a baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper.
  5. Sprinkle popcorn with the green M&M’s and Dehydrated Marshmallow Bits, if desired.
  6. Melt the White Melting Chocolate Wafers using the same process as used for the green chocolate.
  7. Drizzle melted white chocolate over the popcorn mixture, and before the white chocolate sets, top with Green Sprinkles.
  8. Once chocolate has set, serve in a large bowl or separate into goody bags.

March 1-31: National Peanut Month

March is National Peanut Month, which means you can celebrate all month long with your favorite peanutty treats. Whether it's peanut brittle, chocolate covered-peanuts, or candy-coated peanuts, there is a huge variety to keep you crunching all month long.

March 5: Mardi Gras

French for "Fat Tuesday," Mardi Gras is celebrated on the day before Ash Wednesday. Historically, those who observe Lent would binge on rich, fatty foods prior to the traditional types of fasting that occur during Lent. Mardi Gras celebrations often feature beads, gold coins, and the colors of purple, green, and gold

March 28: National Something on a Stick Day

Now this is a day to get excited about, given the number of different ways you can celebrate. Of course, there's the obvious shish kabob, but we prefer the sweeter, more colorful Gummi Kabob. Or, how about the beautiful, sparkly Rock Candy Crystal Sticks? And, of course, we couldn't let this holiday go by without slurping on one of the hundreds of different lollipops in our collection!

Instructions:

Make the Hat Brim

  1. Use a circular item that’s larger than the mouth of the plastic cup to trace circles onto the green card stock. (If you're using a similar size cup to ours, you can print our template.)
  2. Cut out the circles.

Make the Belt and Buckle for the Hat

  1. Cut a long strip of black card stock (the width of the strip will depend on the size of your cup – long enough to wrap around the widest part of the plastic cup.
  2. Cut a square out of the gold card stock that is about a half inch larger than the width of the black (belt) strip.
  3. Measure the width of the black strip and mark a square the same width onto the center of the gold square you cut previously.
  4. Use a craft knife to cut out the smaller square from the center.

Fill & Complete the Hat

  1. Glue or tape the buckle onto the midpoint of the black strip.
  2. Fill the cup with the green candies and cover with a piece of plastic wrap.
  3. Place a rubber band around the plastic wrapped cup to hold the plastic wrap in place. Trim any excess plastic wrap.
  4. Place a few strips of double-sided tape, or tape rolls, onto the plastic wrap, and top with the large green circle it is centered on top of the cup.
  5. Turn the cup over and wrap the belt and buckle around the wide mouth of the cup, so it covers the rubber band and plastic wrap.

Decorating Tip: Display your Leprechaun Hats as centerpieces, with some Gold Foiled Chocolate Coins scattered around them.
