March-mallow Madness!

February 28, 2018

Marshmallows. They're fluffy, they're squishy, they're ooey-gooey, and they are oh so fun to eat. Perhaps you don't think of these sweet little morsels of cloudlike goodness as candy, per se. Maybe you imagine them as more of a candy accessory--an essential ingredient in s'mores, Rice Krispies Treats, and a few breakfast cereals. But we're here to tell you that not only are they an integral part of our candy kingdom, they're one of the most versatile and unique ingredients we see!

First up: What is a Marshmallow?
We know you love them, but did you ever stop to think about what's in a marshmallow, or how they're made? Before you read any further, take a look at this fascinating video to get a behind-the-scenes look at a marshmallow factory in action.

How many different ways can you enjoy mallows?
We've already mentioned a few of the classic ways people enjoy marshmallows, and we think "directly from the bag to your mouth" is pretty much a given. So what other delicious forms do marshmallows take? Here are some of our favorites:

MarpolesMarpoles
It's understandable that you might be shy about eating marshmallows straight from the bag in public. Again, lots of people think of mallows as an ingredient, not a snack. Thankfully, you can reach for Marpoles. These colorful, individually-wrapped marshmallow twists let everyone around you know that they're intended to be eaten by themselves!

Chocolate Covered
The simplest and most obvious upgrade to marshmallows follows our number one rule: When in doubt, dip it in chocolate.

(Editor's note: Once when Jimmy Sweet Tooth was facing a bad bout with writers' block he followed our number one rule with his keyboard. It caused some problems with our IT person and forced us to update our employee handbook.)

Russell Stover Chocolate & Marshmallow Seasonal TreatsThere are lots of great chocolate-covered marshmallow treats available, and many of them come in fun seasonal shapes and colors. Take our Russell Stover Milk Chocolate Covered Eggs or Hearts, for example. Or Brach's Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Rabbits or Santas. Of course, you can always rely on the delicious taste of Boyer's Mallo Cups or Sifers Valomilk Candy Cups for the delightful taste of marshmallow and chocolate any time of year.

Peeps
Long ago, even before the wonderful world of All City Candy, Peeps were primarily an Easter treat. You could find rows of yellow or pink marshmallow chicks at your local drugstore from February until April, and that was about it. Maybe some peoples' preference for stale peeps came from their attempts to stockpile these yummy snacks while they were in season. Months later, these lucky folks realized that Peeps age into a completely different kind of delicious!

Peeps VarietyThankfully, Peeps' incredible popularity led to more and more varieties. And now you can get some variation of these squishy delights all year round. And the selection of shapes and colors is astounding: chicks, bunnies, eggs, monsters, ghosts, spooky cats, tombstones, pumpkins, snowmen, reindeer, gingerbread men and even minions have made it into the mix. And that's not all...

Peeps Delights
Peeps DelightsThe latest additions to the Peeps empire have taken things up a notch, adding new flavors and luscious chocolate accents to this iconic candy. Peeps Delights flavors like Hot Chocolate, Sugar Cookie, Maple Brown Sugar and Pumpkin Spice Latte capture great taste and seasonal charm and add a touch of white fudge for an irresistibly decadent experience. Peppermint Bark Peeps dipped in dark chocolate are equally awesome.

Gourmet Milk Chocolate & Candy Covered Jumbo Marshmallow PopsGourmet Marshmallows
Speaking of decadence, you know that when we find a delicious flavor combination we have to add it to our line of made in-house gourmet treats! Say hello to our marshmallow creations: Gourmet Milk Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Ice Cream Cones are colorful and delicious snacks that are great to serve at parties. The same goes for our Milk Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Pops, which also make lovely bouquets! For an extra indulgent treat, try our Milk Chocolate & Candy Coated Jumbo Marshmallow pops, which add your choice of crunchy candy coatings into the delicious mix.

Not-quite marshmallows
MoonPieFinally, we have a few products that aren't exactly marshmallows, but still deserve a mention. For example, MoonPie is one of those products that uses marshmallow as an ingredient. The mallow may not be the star of the show, but along with the cookies and chocolate coating, it's an integral part of this iconic 101 year old favorite! And the @moonpie Twitter account is as good as it gets.

S'mores Salt Water TaffyAll City Candy also serves up this S'mores Saltwater Taffy for times when building a campfire is impractical, impossible, or illegal (Like when you're waiting in line at the bank. If any of our local tellers are reading, I'm really sorry about that.)

Jelly Belly Toasted Marshmallow Jelly BeansFinally, a brand we all know and love, Jelly Belly, offers a toasted marshmallow jelly bean that can't be beat. If you turn on the crackling fireplace video on Netflix, hang a pine-scented air freshener from your ceiling fan and close your eyes while you eat them it's practically indistinguishable from real camping.

Now you're familiar with a whole genre of delightful candies you might never have considered before! Try a few of them. Try them all. And if you try them at the beginning of the week, be sure to share a photo with the hashtag #marshmallowmonday. We're trying to make it a thing.
