Even some of the biggest fans of the Charms lollipops and Blow Pops don't realize that those classic candies descended from these square-shaped hard candies that come in an assortment of classic fruit flavors: Cherry, Grape, Lemon, Lime, Orange and Raspberry.
During World War II, the U.S. Army began including Charms candies in combat rations (MREs – Meals Ready to Eat) as a supplemental energy form, a tradition that has continued off and on into the present. We have heard rumors of a legend among Marines that eating the Charms candies in your MRE will cause your unit to be rained upon. Since we don't sell these Charms Squares in MREs, we figure you're safe. In fact, we're putting a few packs away in case of drought.
Ingredients: Sugar, corn syrup, citric acid, artificial flavors, artificial colors (including FD&C Red 40, FD&C Blue 1), and turmeric coloring.
